Sometimes, you need a staycation at home. Toronto is where I hang my many hats, but I desperately needed to venture out with the Do The Daniel Toronto team for some serious rejuvenation. The city is buzzing with tons of shops, eateries, and unique hotels, but the state-of-the-art Toronto Marriott Markham had great reviews and seemed like a genuine standout.
It totally was. Here’s why I’ll definitely be back for more at the Marriott Markham.
When your car pulls up to the Marriott Markham, you feel like you’ve materialized into another world of fascinating architecture. From the unique shape to the glass detailing, the exterior of the building boasts a strikingly modern appeal that screams sophistication. The interior is another story.
Walking into the lobby entrance is like stepping into a massive futuristic palace—the walls and ceilings throughout the space are dripping in contemporary finishes and art pieces that could have you entranced for many hours. Wood flooring and gorgeous lighting is a nice touch and the sizeable rooms are incredibly comfortable. Sometimes, a modern hotel looks like a piece of art but the amenities like the seats and beds aren’t exactly cozy. But I’m happy to report from the beds to every last chair, everything was ready to sink into—and Netflix and lightning-fast Wi-Fi are just a click away.
When you’re at a nice hotel, you expect nothing but top-notch service. But when you’re at a nice hotel, you don’t necessarily expect every last employee to go above and beyond. This is exactly what happened at the Toronto Marriott Markham.
I arrived a tad before check-in and knew I’d be waiting for a bit, so I decided to do an impromptu photo shoot to pass the time. Instead of letting my bags sit with me, the friendly concierge was quick to grab my bags and put everything away so I wasn’t burdened by walking around with all of my stuff. I also thought I lost my purse, and a few helpful staff dropped everything to help me look for it. It turns out I had just misplaced it, but even so, I’m so impressed with their attentiveness and consideration.
Right in the heart of downtown-Markham, the hotel is conveniently close to all sorts of interesting hubs like the Flato Markham Theatre, Unionville, McKay Art Centre, and the Markham Pan Am Centre. These places are great if you even need to get away from the hotel, which has a fitness center that never closes. But let’s get to the food.
The Markham’s Draco restaurant is a sight to see. The atmosphere is smart casual and the gorgeous bar is the place to be if you’re craving a delicious handcrafted cocktail. The cuisine is CanAsian and features delectable delights like charcuterie, duck confit, and even lobster grilled cheese. Yum!
The Markham is about 20 quick miles from Toronto’s two airports—the Pearson International Airport and the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. I’m so impressed by the beauty and service of the Toronto Marriot Markham—I can’t wait for another staycation.
